Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Master of Arts, Board Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Instructor of Hypnosis

Ron Eslinger, Owner and CEO of Healthy Visions Wellness Center, Oak Ridge, Tennessee was nominated by the Department of the Navy to Represent the Department of Defense as Ex-Officio member to the National Institutes of Health’s Health Service’s Committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the National Guild of Hypnotist’s receiver of the Researcher of the Year award for 2003. He graduated from St. Mary’s nursing school Knoxville, TN, in 1970 and completed Nurse Anesthesia training at the University of Tennessee in 1974. Certified in Hypnotherapy in 1978. He received his BS degree in Professional Arts from Saint Joseph’s College in Wenham, Main, and his Masters Degree in Foreign Affairs for National Defense and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, Newport, RI in 1994.

A retired United States Navy Captain, his many assignments included Senior Nurse Executive and the Director for Patient Services, Naval Hospital Beaufort, SC, 2001 - 2003. From 1996 to 2001 Ron was the Chief Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Assistant Department Head for Administration, Anesthesia Department, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA where he founded and personally developed the Medical Center’s Complementary Care Clinic. This experience led to consulting positions with other medical centers such as Kaiser Permeate, Portland, Oregon, Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA, Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, NC and Naval Hospital, Beaufort, SC.

While at Portsmouth Ron served on the Clinical Competency Committee for the Naval School of Health Sciences Nurse Anesthesia Program. He was the representative for Licensed Independent Practitioners on the Naval Medical Center’s Executive Committee for Medical Staff. He was granted the title of approved consultant by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and is a Certified Hypnosis Instructor of the National Guild of Hypnotists and the American Board of Hypnotherapy. He served on the Editorial Board for CRNA: The Clinical Forum for Nurse Anaesthetists and served as President of the Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He later served as the Program Chairman of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists. In addition, he has lectured on anesthesia and hypnosis to the following state anesthesia associations: Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Idaho, Texas, Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland, and North Carolina. He also presented to the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses on Hypnosis as an Adjunct to Childbirth.

Captain Eslinger presented to the Defense Advanced Research Project’s Agency and to the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States on Hypnosis in Military Medicine. He is currently Vice President, Region 2 of the Tennessee Nurses Association.

Ron contributed the chapter on Pain Management for the Second Addition of the Official Consumers Guide to Hypnosis.
